Question: How to Prevent iTunes from Automatically Synchronizing with iPod on Windows?

Start iTunes. Before and while you connect your iPod to your computer, press the:

Shift + Ctrl keys on Windows

Cmd + Opt keys on a Mac

If you have already set those keys as hotkeys for some other function (like I have to switch between Dvorak and regular keyboard), you may need to disable their hotkey functionality first.

Hold these keys down the entire time until you see the iPod in the list of devices in iTunes.

In iTunes, you can then click on the iPod and turn off automatic sync.
